1 – ‘Leadership’: What leadership? Under Pichay’s leadership a Filipino/Filipina/Philippine LEFT. That Philippine later became an AMERICAN.

2 – Wesley became top 2 DESPITE not BECAUSE of Pichay’s ‘leadership’. (The only principle of charity I’ll give here is ‘under’ instead of ‘because of’. Eh.)

3 – Wesley was no longer playing for the Philippines after 2013 (even if citizen up to 2021). An AMERICAN player was at the time the number 2 in chess and later the number in 9LX in 2019. That’s an achievement of the US not the Philippines.

This guy also had the slogan of Pichay, itanim sa senado and had the highest expenses during that election.

He is a member of Lakas CMD and one of those who voted to junk the impeachment of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the Hello Garci electoral fraud.

People should be also aware that the guy is part of the pro-mining tycoon loop in the Philippines (yes, most of the people around Arroyo are involved in mining).

1 – ‘Pichay voted to junk the 2005 and 2006 impeachment complaints against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. At the height of the “Hello Garci Scandal“, he said there was nothing wrong with Arroyo talking to Commission on Elections officials, as all candidates talk to them to protect their votes.’

Take my anecdote with a grain of salt, partly because it was just shared to me by a friend: his girlfriend used to be part of the national chess team but quit because, apparently, she wasn’t sucking up enough to the federation officials to be considered for competition.

Wesley So deserved better, I’m actually glad the US chess federation took him under their wing. There’s no chance he’d get ahead with all that politicking and corruption with the NCFP.

Edit: Quick clarification. I notice when people talk about why Wesley So left the Philippines to play for the US, people say it’s about corruption in the Philippine government. Apparently maybe it’s just corruption in the Philippine chess federation, an NGO, rather than corruption in the government. Either this question should be re-opened or I made an understandable honest mistake based on the mistakes of others.

In the Philippines, there’s this corrupt politician Prospero ‘Butch’ Pichay Jr who is the recently re-elected NCFP (national chess federation of the Philippines) president. (Kinda like Arkady Dvorkovich in international chess except without the corruption…maybe.)

June 2022 – Pichay guilty of graft over P780 million LWUA funds misuse and Ex-LWUA Administrator Pichay convicted in 2009 purchase of Express Savings Bank

The anti-graft court’s Fourth Division has sentenced Pichay and former LWUA financial service head Wilfredo Feleo Jr. to serve six to 10 years of imprisonment for each count of graft conviction. The two are also perpetually disqualified from holding public office.

If you’re not familiar with Higurashi/Umineko, then a statement is true if it’s in red, but it may or may not be true otherwise. (Afaik, you can’t put questions, commands or requests in red.) Whenever red truth is displayed, there’s a sound effect.

The solution :

1 – Pichay’s POOR leadership led Wesley So to quit the NCFP. (Actually, more precisely, Wesley So almost quit chess altogether if it weren’t both USCF & Lotis Key. It wasn’t really that Wesley quit Philippine chess for US chess but that Wesley nearly quit chess!)
2 – Wesley was playing for the US but didn’t become a US citizen until 2021.

This is why Pichay can’t say the white text in red truth.

1 – It ISN’T peculiar.
2 – They AREN’T supporting sports.
3 – WE shouldn’t be proud of that achievement because it was an achievement of the US not of the Philippines.
