“I don’t enjoy (following chess960) as much as following a normal top event. Like, I like to play chess960, but I don’t like to watch it so much. (…) It looks so weird, like the pieces (…), but to play it, it’s fun (…) Also, it’s very hard to follow afterwards.”

“There’s no preparation. You just like sleep and go and play. I always felt like other physical sports they have this advantage (…) you just warm up your body before you go to the game. But in chess it’s like you prepare, you look at lines (…) but in other sports you just like you get ready mentally more or just warm up a bit go. • Magnus should be a wild card in 2022 WC for being #1 in chess if and only if Wesley So should be / should’ve been automatically in the chess candidates, which Wesley So wasn’t for the past 2 chess candidates soooo yeah. [ See https://reddit.com/xf7gjv ]
• Same with Nepo: It’s unclear who was really the top 2 between Magnus & Nepo in 2019 as is typical in single knockouts. In 2019 semifinals & finals, Nepo actually has a higher score than Magnus, in classical, in rapid & combined. 2 notes about wildcards:

1 – Fabi & Vidit kept complaining about wildcards in the 2022 WFRCC, yet THEY were wildcards in the 2019 WFRCC:

1.1 – Vidit was a qualifier wildcard

1.2 – but Fabi’s worse – wildcard directly into the quarter-finals (the top 9) for being the 2018 WCC runner-up.

So they don’t complain about wild cards WHEN THEY’RE wild cards? LOL!!!!!

2 – Wesley So didn’t get the analogue of what Fabi got which is to be a wildcard in either the 2020 or the 2022 candidates for being the 2019 WFRCC.

2.1 – And actually Hikaru & Magnus were 2019 WFRCC wildcards in resp quarter-finals & semi-finals for being 2018 unofficial WFRCC, resp, runner-up & winner, but how did they get those 2018 unofficial WFRCC the 1st place?

2.2 – An ex post facto argument for Fabi : Then again Fabi did ‘win’ the 2019 WFRCC quarter-finals in getting the highest score, followed by Nepo and then Wesley So. But all 3 of them didn’t lose any classical games in the quarter-finals. Actually…
